"An
Operate Yourself" 32' Catamaran Mothership - One of our past
programs:
Paddle from this boat, Voyager1, in the
mangrove islands where there is little camping ashore! Sleep out on the water, in the
breeze, away from the bugs. In the time it would otherwise take to break
camp, you can cruise to a new paddling area. 16' sea kayaks, quality
paddles, and charts designating where to anchor! GPS, library, hot shower,
refrigerator, camping gear for deck. Easy and safe to operate, in the shallow, protected
waters, with minimal experience: a concept designed
specifically for this type of environment.

Kayak Paddling Environments
Photos of the Self Guided
Kayak Paddling Trips
Easy to operate - fully equipped with sea kayaks and gear - includes charts designating anchorages, putting you at the choice launch sites, for self-guided kayak tours. Our 32-foot Voyagers power catamaran (designed by kayakers and custom built to be a floating base camp for kayak paddlers), is a proven alternative, where camping is limited, and bugs usually dominate. The boat comes complete with hot shower, refrigerator, and camp stove. It's outfitted with all first class equipment for kayak exploration around the Barrier Islands in the Gulf of Mexico off the west coast of Florida - over 200 miles of paddling trails! Includes J.N."Ding"Darling NWR on the lee side of Sanibel, the barrier islands of Captiva and North Captiva, Cayo Costa State Park, Pine Island and the Pine Island National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in Pine Island Sound.
FUN - FLEXIBLE
- PRACTICAL - CONVENIENT ! Chart your own expedition course ,set your own
pace! With our 32-foot Kayak Voyagers power catamaran
mothership bareboat charters (bareboat means you drive it yourself), up to four
kayak paddlers (with some boating experience) can have the freedom to "do
their own thing": create their own itineraries, and go with their own flow,
according to weather and desire. Assistance in route planning for your
personalized ecotour trip is available and encouraged.
The
design of the Voyager 1catamaran evolved from years of experience staying out
overnight in our unique mangrove island
environments. Like in a conventional "camping on the beach"
tour, the sense of breaking camp and moving on to a new location has been
maintained, and crossed with the support vessel concept. Here, where
camping on beaches is limited, you'll have the comfort of anchoring out in the breeze,
away from the bugs. Sleep in tents on the deck if you choose, or
sleep on the open deck under the stars. Also included is a refrigerator,
marine head (bathroom) and a hot shower (as in private, indoor, hot shower, to
enjoy after a day of paddling!!!). The shallow draft design of our
Voyagers catamaran gives you the ability to get in close to islands and travel
in only 3' of water! The lowered kayak boarding
decks at the stern, were added to the catamaran design to specifically allow easy
exit and entry of the kayaks. A rack on the stern or the racks on the roof store the kayaks. To
maximize your expedition enjoyment, you'll have the flexibility to move your
mobile base camp, taking into account the daily winds and currents to optimize
your departure and return paddles.
Point of
significance: It is misinformation that we only have biting bugs in
the summer. The summer has less wind and more heat, but the truth is we
have the bugs year round - whenever there is no wind: such as the windless
days in between cold fronts, or on the leeward sides of islands, or on any shore
out of the wind: with heavier concentrations at dawn and dusk - sunrise and
sunset. We as locals, kayak paddlers and boaters, know this! Our
Voyager 1 catamaran concept has evolved for us, out of these conditions. We
feel that to watch the sunrise with a mug of coffee or tea, out on the water,
and to be able to relax while preparing breakfast without being eaten alive
ourselves, is important. Dinner or stargazing in t-shirts and shorts, or
sleeping right under the open stars, are elements, in addition to the premier
paddling, that will fulfill your trip.
Learn more about our
barrier island environments: mangrove islands, sandy beaches, sea
grasses, bird watching, and marine life on "Our
Kayak Paddling Environments" page. Because of low light pollution,
you can experience the maximum amount of stars available to the naked eye: sure
to be another highlight of your trip!
The Voyager 1 Catamaran comes outfitted with:
-
up to four fiberglass sea kayaks with quality gear and all safety equipment
- books,
ID cards: history, marine life, birds, stargazing
